It’s official. No more weather chatter until we hit 40°. It is easy to become obsessed with the less pleasant elements of winter and obsess on the mind-numbing cold and inescapable Windchill’s. We’re just not going to acknowledge their all-consuming presence in this blog. That said, what else is there to talk about? The Super Bowl? Hmm. I can tell you the Bengals and the Rams are playing but that is the extent of my knowledge. Pass.
Let’s think summertime!
How about some great SUMMERTIME nature photos. Now we’re talking! All of the following images were captured in July of 2021. I’m hoping this blog post serves to redeem myself in some way amongst my readership. Apparently I have been too enthusiastic for the Winter season for some people’s tastes. I received a message that a reader hoped I choked on a snowflake! Such hostility! Enjoy the following photos. Let them transport you to a place of green landscapes, radiant warmth and refreshing breeze.
Bugs (actually, insects, but it is more fun to say ‘bugs’.)
Oops. Accidently opened the the ‘bug’ file. In defense of Winter, there are ZERO insects to interfere with your outdoor activities. Some would consider that a fair tradeoff in exchange for risk of hypothermia, frostbite and snow blindness. I don’t know, I could be wrong. Note: This was not weather chatter – this was a non-weather related observation on Winter. Seasonal chatter.
Otter Tail River
Let’s see what else I can find. My hope is you enjoy the photos. I remember taking these – separate locations, separate days – but all beautiful days. I look at these images and my memories take over. Fun times for sure!
There, how’s that for some summertime imagery? (I had to insert just one more insect photo!) The beauty of photography. Go back in time – just a little or a lot. Rekindling memories – cherishing moments.
Capturing images for nearly 50 years
I have memories of capturing images going back nearly 50 years. That’s crazy. Some of my first memories were on a family vacation to the North Shore. I had to take the classic Split Rock Lighthouse photo. (I thought it turned out especially well – at age 11.) If memory serves me, I still have it. I really should do a deep dive into my photo books and see what I discover. Maybe even an ‘almost’ picture of Bigfoot (if only I had brought my camera that day!)
Spring ahead!
I’m really looking forward to Spring. I have many plans and even am purchasing a camo cover that will fit over both myself and my tripod-mounted camera. I should be able to get close to wildlife – capture more bird in flight shots and possibly some deer! Exciting stuff. It is good to have things to look forward to. If you have not yet made some Spring plans or laid out some goals, I suggest you do so. Planning, in and of itself, is a great break from the occupation of Winter.

I have some really great Summer and Fall images to brighten your space at RedBarnProject.com. Check them out or contact me. Peace.
