I share this comment with friends and contacts quite frequently. I don’t ever want it to become a trite expression. This little phrase is powerful! It is full of energy, encouragement and the recognition we do have some control over how are perceptions of a day can make it a great day! There is a lot to life. It gets busy. Days can be filled with concerns and worries. Health issues, loneliness, job stress, family matters – they can pile up on us and smother our ability to take control of the day and make it great.
Shake it off
And when I say shake it off, I mean shake it, shake it, shake it. Don’t stop tossing your concerns into the air until you can see the whole day for what it is. A gift. It is a gift to be human. At this moment. In this time. We are here and we can make a difference in our own life and in the life of others! That . . . is . . . AWESOME!
Make it a great day in your own way
Each of us has a basket of talents and abilities – all unique unto ourselves. Each of us has a circle of family, friends and contacts. We can take our talents and abilities and use them to make the lives of family, friends and contacts better. I remember times in my life where just a simple word of praise extended to another person made them light up! I remember lighting up with just a word of encouragement. It is like winning the lottery. Be it, thanks for doing such a great job with an order or commenting on a persons cheery demeanor. Happiness can spread like a wildfire with just one little spark. Be the spark maker!
My hope is my words and photos serve to be a spark of happiness in the lives of my followers and acquaintances. Selfishly, my photos serve to jazz up my mood. I look at them every morning. They are filled with wonderful memories and make me happy to see them. Make it a great day in your own way. We are such a diverse group of talents I couldn’t possibly cover them all but I’ll just say give your day your best effort, take a moment to offer sincere praise or encouragement, be that ray of sunshine that spreads warmth and happiness to others.
How about a photo to help make it a great day
Reach out and touch someone
I’m not talking literally. That could be awkward – and a little creepy. I’m talking the old fashioned Ma Bell way. Give a call to a friend you haven’t spoken with for some time. I received such a call on Saturday. I’m still glowing. We hadn’t shared conversation in over a year. As an added bonus, my friend praised my website – said my work was tremendous. I was glowing like a woodstove ember. It made my day. It is still making my day! See how simple that was? And it works wonders. Imagine if everyone today wished another person to ‘make it a great day.’ It only takes a moment, and I absolutely guarantee people will feel amazing for it. Such a simple thing can mean so much.
Create something to make it a great day
We are creative beings. It is in our design. Go out today and create something! It can be something such as a jigsaw puzzle, a scrap book, a photo album. Maybe it would be something more involved. The possibilities are endless, as is the satisfaction. Get creative! I create stuff on a wood lathe. Here is a quick example of what I do:
Hobbies are important for us. That is my point. To be engaged, be it reading, keeping a journal, blogging, making wood chips. You name it. It is very healthy to have a hobby – especially this time of year when we might feel more confined and stay indoors.

I bet some of you are wondering why I haven’t mentioned the featured photo. Well, it is an impressionistic photo of a male Ruby Throated Hummingbird just hanging out in the Bleeding Hearts. Why is he there. He is having a GREAT day! Just like we all can have. Check him out. He’s flashing his color to make people happy. What a generous little dude.
If you need to reach me regarding purchasing a photo of the Hummer or any of the photos on my website, contact me here. If you want to see more Hummingbirds, check out their Gallery on my website. Now go out, make it a great day, and feel the Peace.
