I spend a lot of time watching birds. I try to capture their expressiveness and behaviors. Those attributes are especially interesting to me. But it leaves me wondering, what does a Chickadee think about? Do they ponder life? I don’t believe they worry or fret. From Matthew 6:2-27, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable.” The takeaway for me in that passage is we humans have a tendency to worry and fret but should not. I go back to what my friend Randy said, “It will be OK.” In all things, it will be OK. Randy knows this. He is a survivor with strong spirit.
Yep, -19 air temp this AM, but it will be OK. I don’t think it is always fair to say we conquered this land called Minnesota, as sometimes it conquers us. Just the nature of things. But we survive. We persevere. Each of us is special and has purpose. We are driven to achieve success. And what is success? I think Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best as follows:
Thank you, Richard of Oregon, for sharing this valuable reminder! “To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” Yes, we all have purpose! Hang in there. Be the Chickadee and endure the tough days because we never know what tomorrow has to offer. Sometimes we need, and sometimes we’re needed. That is life and it is a beautiful thing.

Why do we ponder life?
Human nature – and a creative spirit. There is so much to consider. The secret to happiness is to ponder without having worry, doubt or self esteem issues creep in. I ponder Nature. I ponder the order of flower petals, the various species of ducks and the plumage that is unique to each. And I ponder the seasons, Bumblebees, and Hummingbirds. There is so much to consider in the design of each. It truly fascinates me! Consider the ant. It is capable of carrying items that are gigantic in comparison to the ant’s size. How do they do it. Do they accomplish these feats because nobody every told them they couldn’t do it? Put aside self doubt. Be the ant.
Getting back to the Chickadee
I don’t believe Chickadees ponder life. They just deal with it in a most pleasant fashion. Have you ever seen a grumpy Chickadee? Cold day? No biggie. Too hot? Cool off in the bird bath. No biggie. Their success is measured in their survival. But I think there is more to their success than what we might first consider. “To know one life has breathed easier because you have lived.” Chickadees have made my life breath easier. Chickadees are entertainers. They give back. They have succeeded in life! Again, be the Chickadee. Reach out. Extend yourself and touch the lives of others. A kind word is such a simple gesture but so much appreciated. Measure your success in the happiness you give to others.

Ponder life from Nature’s perspective
There is order in Nature. There is a design to Nature. Fascinating. If we examine our lives, we’ll find design. We strive for order. Ponder life from the perspective of a Chickadee and you will find any problems you had just melt away. Live in the moment. Don’t worry. Take delight in what you do and what you can do to be a success as defined by Ralph Waldo Emerson. “To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better . . . This is to have succeeded.”
